Straus suggested that the legislature would have to address the Texas structural deficit “now.” "We have no choice, unless we want to continue to try to grow our population and continue to shrink spending significantly," Straus said. Straus also said it was time for the legislature to look at the margin tax again, regardless of the outcome of the constitutional challenge to the tax now before the Supreme Court.
